Children at Play Signs

Will the City put a "Children at Play" Sign on my Street?

It might seem at first that this sign would provide protection to youngsters playing in a neighborhood. It doesn't.

Studies done in cities where these signs were widely posted in residential areas have not shown evidence of reduced pedestrian crashes or reduced vehicle speed.

Obviously, children should not be encouraged to play in streets. The "Children at Play" sign directly suggests it is acceptable to do so and federal standards discourage the use of such signs.

Specific warning signs for schools, playgrounds, parks and other recreational facilities are used where clearly justified. However, the City does not install "Children at Play" signs.
